Garrett GTI 2500 Metal Detector Problems

Garrett GTI 2500

Garrett GTI 2500 metal detector problems are a nightmare to deal with!

Have you been getting false or intermittent signals?

Or maybe your search coil is going completely crazy?

Don’t worry, you’re not alone. I’ve run into pretty much every possible metal detector problem during my more than 10 years of detecting.

This article will show you how to fix common problems I’ve seen with garrett GTI 2500 metal detector.

And hopefully get you back out into the field!

How to Reset Garrett GTI 2500

Many minor problems with the Garrett GTI 2500 can be solved by resetting the metal detector. Always try this solution before continuing on to other potential fixes.

To reset the Garrett GTI 2500 follow these steps:

  1. Find the power button on the control box.
  2. Hold the power button for five to ten seconds.
  3. The metal detector will be twice.
  4. Release the power button.
  5. Your Garrett GTI 2500 metal detector is now reset.

After following these steps run a test with your metal detector to see if the problem is fixed.

The easiest way to do this is to bury a quarter approximately 3-6 inches deep in your backyard. Run the metal detector over the quarter as you would if you were out metal detecting.

If the problem still persists, proceed to one of the following solutions.

Problems With Garrett GTI 2500 Power

If you are having problems with the power on your Garrett GTI 2500 the first step is to try resetting the device using the above steps.

If resetting the metal detector does not work there is likely a problem with your batteries.

First, ensure the batteries are property installed in your metal detector. It is important to make sure they are in the correct position.

Double check that the positive (+) and negative (-) sides are both facing the right way.

I know this seems basic BUT…

I’ve been metal detecting for over a decade and I still do this from time to time.

If your batteries are facing the right direction, try testing them with a battery tester.

A battery tester is a basic kit you can pick up at any hardware store. The tester will tell you whether the batteries in your metal detector are dead or not.

If the batteries on your Garrett GTI 2500 are dead, swap them out for some new ones.

Problems with Garrett GTI 2500 False Signals

Problems with false signals on the Garrett GTI 2500 are one of the most frustrating issues. Unfortunately, there isn’t a single solution for this problem.

To begin solving this problem complete each of the solutions listed below one by one. Test your metal detector after you have completed each solution to see if it has solved the problem.

Search Coil False Signals

The search coil on your Garrett GTI 2500 can cause problems with false signals. In order to fix this, first check the connection between the search coil and the metal detector

Make sure the search coil is properly connected. Double check there is nothing obstructing the connection such as stray plant matter or dog hair.

Next, make sure the search coil cable is securely wrapped around the stem of the metal detector.

It’s important to run the cable straight along the bottom 6 inches of the shaft of the metal detector. If you have extra cable length securely wrap it around the shaft above the 6 inch mark.

False Signal Indoors

If you are testing your Garrett GTI 2500 indoors, there will be a lot of electrical interference. Testing your metal detector indoors can also cause problems due to the surrounding metals of the structure.

Be sure to test your metal detector outside to be sure this isn’t the cause of your problem.

False Signals From Power Line Interference

Power line interference can cause your Garrett GTI 2500 to pick up false signals. This is due to strong electrical signals produced by industrial power lines.

To fix this problem, simply test your metal detector in an area away from any power lines.

Electric fences surrounding farms or industrial complexes can also cause this same problem.

False Signals From Ground Mineralization

Ground mineralization can cause false signal problems for your Garrett GTI 2500 metal detector. This problem occurs when there is an extremely wide variety of metals and minerals in the ground you are detecting.

The way to fix this problem is to adjust the frequency on your metal detector. Try turning your frequency up or down slightly to narrow in on the metal you want to detect.

Problems With Garrett GTI 2500 Pinpointing

Problems with the Garrett GTI 2500 pinpointing function can be solved with the proper technique.

The most common problem with pinpointing is when you press the pinpointing button and the metal detector goes quiet. This is typically due to what’s called overload.

To fix this problem, center the metal detector over the target. Then, move the coil to the side of the target by about a foot.

After this push the pin point button and then bring the detector back over the target.

Problems With Garrett GTI 2500 Search Coil

Problems with the garrett GTI 2500 coil can be caused by the coil cover. Remove your coil cover and inspect it.

You want to look for any rocks, pebbles, plant matter, or dirt caught in the coil cover. These can interrupt signals sent between your coil and your metal detector.

Remove any loose debris and reattach your coil cover.

Problems With Garrett GTI 2500 Display

Problems with the garrett GTI 2500 display can be solved by resetting your metal detector. Follow the above steps to reset your metal detector.

If this does not work, there is likely an issue with the circuits within the display control box. To fix this you will need to take your metal detector to a local repair shop or contact customer support.
